Samsung Apps getting operator based billing in 11 countries including India

Samsung Electronics has announced operator based billing for its mobile and TV application store Samsung Apps. With this the users can buy apps from easily in just 2 clicks and the price will be charged in the phone bill or deducted from the prepaid SIM card. Samsung Apps has more than 15,000 apps that is available in 120 countries worldwide. Samsung Apps crossed 10 million downloads in first 3 months and crossed more than 100 million downloads in less than 10 months since its launch on June 2010. The new billing features will see phased roll out in European countries that include Germany, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Ukraine and Asian countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and India from 28th April 2011. Samsung has announced Summer Splash at the Samsung apps site that offers Bada apps at the discounted prices. There are a total of 70 Bada apps that are available for Wave(GT-S8500) and Wave II(GT-S8530) at 20 % discount and some apps are also free. These apps are selected from this year’s top paid-for app list and there are range of apps in the categories like Games, Navigation and productivity. Some of the Games include, Fruit Ninja, Shrek Forever After HD, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction HD, PES 2011 – Pro Evolution Soccer, Earthworm Jim HD, Brothers In Arms 2: Global Front HD.The productivity apps include, Picsel Smart Office, Google Translate and Mobile maps for countries like India, Germany, Italy, France, Russia and Ireland. Samsung Android devices are famous worldwide but what about their Bada powered devices? Well, they are also famous and one of the best selling Samsung devices. Bada is Samsung’s very own OS and Samsung Wave was first one to run it, and then Samsung launched the Wave 2 and it’s known as one of the best selling Samsung devices. It looks like Samsung is working on another Bada powered device. Folks over at BadaWorld got their hands on a render image of a new Wave device and they discovered it in the Bada 2.0 SDK. The device is codenamed as Wave 725 and final name is still unconfirmed. The image above is just a render but I am sure that the real device is not much different. It's probably the same device which was leaked a few weeks ago and it was scheduled for September. The device comes with a 3.65 inch touchscreen display with the resolution of 320 x 480, it has a 5MP camera with a front facing VGA camera, and it will also feature NFC, and features like WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and other common features. Here are two travel apps, Car Finder and Wipolo for your Bada and Android phones. The Car Finder app uses GPS to remember the location of your parked car and guides you to it. Wipolo is handy to view the travel information like weather forecasts, currencies, timezone etc. The Car Finder app remembers the location where the car is parked by navigating to previously visited locations. Samsung launches bada 2.0 SDK

Samsung has launched the bada 2.0 SDK (Software Development Kit) for the developers, which is their own mobile development platform. They showcased the features of bada 2.0 at the MWC 2011 in Barcelona earlier this February. The bada 2.0 brings new capabilities including multi-tasking, Wi-Fi Direct, Near Field Communication (NFC) and voice recognition and enhances the web experience with the HTML5 and improved Flash support. It also supports some of the advanced services such as mobile payment, transport pass-card recharge and file sharing without Internet networking. The bada 2.0 would also support In-app Ads that lets the developers insert ads using the Ads API (Application Programming Interface)that would provide revenue opportunities. There are also some useful tools for developers such as Emulator and Profiler. The Samsung apps clocked 10 Million downloads in the first 10 months of its launch and it surpassed 100 million-mark in March 2011, and it is now available in 121 countries worldwide. The new bada 2.0 would provide new app purchasing options and recommendations. The bada 2.0 SDK could be downloaded from the bada developer site.

Bada 2.0 update for Samsung Wave devices coming soon

Earlier today the official Samsung Bada twitter account tweeted that they will be updating all the wave devices to Bada 2.0 in Q4. The devices in Europe will be the first to get updated starting from next month. Samsung announces bada 2.0 Power App Race contest for developers

Samsung has announced the bada 2.0 Power App Race for bada 2.0 developer globally that would offer them a chance to win cash prize up to $100,000 each. This is the second year of the Power App Race contest, and this would let the developers create new and innovative apps using the bada 2.0 SDK. A total of ten applications – including five game applications, and five non-game applications will be selected and rewarded with prize money totaling $1,000,000. The app would also receive  ‘Power App’ mark at Samsung Apps, exclusive marketing and promotion benefits. Developers who wish to participate should register directly on the bada developer site. Entries open on October 18th and will close at midnight on December 31st. Developers can enter as many applications as they wish. The winners are judged by the people. The first 10 apps to reach 100,000 cumulative downloads would be chosen as the final winners, announced on the bada developer site upon reaching the target.

We already know that recently Samsung India has launched three new smartphones in 3 different platforms namely, Android, BADA and Windows Phone. We attended the launch event in Delhi and here are the hands-on photos of Samsung Wave 3. Enjoy… The Samsung Wave 3 is the latest flagship model from Samsung in their BADA line-up and priced in India at Rs. 19600/- which is MRP. As we all know that BADA is the Samsung developed OS for their own devices. BADA is also going to be Open Sourced in 2012 as per Samsung Global. The new Wave 3 actually has a uni-body but battery is still removable as we can slide the battery door towards up and can remove the battery. It's definitely one big advantage than other manufacturer’s unibody design where battery is not removable. Wave 3 uses a 1500mAh battery. The Wave 3 is almost made of fine Aluminium including the sliding battery door with brushed metallic finish which feels quite fantastic in hands. Samsung launches Theme Designer 2.0 for bada developers

Samsung has launched a new version of the Theme Designer tool for bada developers. The Samsung Theme designer 2.0 now supports Wave 3 and Wave M, bada 2.0 devices and also has support for flash content (.swf). The authoring tool includes model specific pre-set information, image / animation / flash components, preview function, and sample theme templates. The process is less with the theme designer that includes simple steps in the stages of concept and design. The previous version, 1.0.5 was launched this May. New features in the Samsung Theme Designer 2.0 Theme type has been changed:  bada 1.x / Feature(Touch) / Feature (NonTouch) Phone Theme. Samsung Theme Designer newly supports bada 2.x Phone Theme type. Samsung Theme Designer newly supports bada Flash Extension Services. Samsung has launched Wave Y in India that runs on bada 2.0 OS. They announced the Wave Y last August along with Wave 3 and Wave M. It comes with a 3.2 inch (320 x 480 pixels) TFT LCD display and is powered by 832MHz processor. It features 2 MP Full focus camera. It is 12.3 mm thick and weighs 102.4g. It comes with 3.5mm audio Jack and stereo FM Radio with RDS. The connectity features include, 3G, Bluetooth v 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n with Wi-Fi Direct, A-GPS and USB 2.0. It also comes with CHATON mobile messenger app, TouchWiz for bada UI, Live Panel  interactive home screen and better Folder Management function. It has 150MB internal memory that is expandable up to 32GB with MicroSD and 1,200mAh battery. The Samsung Wave Y is priced at Rs. 7,950. Customers who purchase Airtel SIM card along with Wave Y would get 500 MB data free for 1 month and 100 MB free data usage per month for 12 months on 3G.
